The Pump Engineer course is an extra-occupational distance-learning study programme providing expert knowledge on the planning, operation and maintenance of pumps and pump systems. The knowledge acquired during the 15-month study course, with only two attendance periods (two weeks each) in Austria and Germany is attested by the certificate “Pump Engineer” or “Pump Technician” awarded to graduates. The course “Certified Energy Consultant for Pumps and Pump Systems” is integrated into the programme.

For numerous industries such as water and sewage treatment, chemical and procedural, refineries and power plants as well as food, paper and pharmaceutical industry, sound know-how on pumps and systems becomes more and more important. Energy efficiency is increasingly demanded in all industrial fields, and again pumps play a significant role as 12.6% of the power consumption in the EU has to be allotted to them. And, as pump systems are often largely oversized, vast savings can be achieved by merely optimizing them.

In order to be able to correctly evaluate the operational and maintenance state of a pump, reasonably high levels of technical knowledge and operational experience are required. Training is of crucial importance to ensure engineering excellence and product innovation continue to provide the optimum solutions for applications worldwide.

The Pump-Engineer is an extra-occupational distance-learning study programme providing expert knowledge on the planning, operation and maintenance of pumps and pump systems. The Pump Engineer programme provides knowledge on the perfect design and operation of pumps by offering theoretical basics as well as specific process- and plant-related knowledge for various industries. Internationally renowned experts from leading German, Austrian and Swiss industrial enterprises could be attracted for the development of the studying material in cooperation with professors from the Graz University of Technology, Technical University Berlin and the Erlangen University.

  • Flexible time-management
  • Practice-oriented training by renowned pump experts
  • Developed by university professors and leading engineers
  • Open to all engineers and professionals working with pumps
The knowledge acquired during the 14-month study course, with only two attendance periods (two weeks each) in Austria and Germany, is attested by the certificate “Pump Engineer” or “Pump Technician” awarded to graduates. The free time management allows the participants to define their own pace of progress within the programme which corresponds to a time equivalent of approximately 400 hours. The curriculum covers Basics, Pump sets, Pumps in systems/plants and Fields of applications (process industry, refineries, power plants, water, sewage, food and sterile technology, paper industry, vacuum technology). Two branch-related modules have to be chosen according to the participant’s needs, interest or professional environment. The course „Certified Energy Consultant for Pumps and Pump Systems“ is integrated into the programme.

Topics taught

In 2005, the first study programme started, and since then around 300 certified pump experts – manufacturers, operators and planers – have been trained to become Pump Engineers and Pump Technicians. Since 2012, the pump.ing study programme is also offered as an English language study course for participants from across the globe.

The target group for the Pump Engineer programme is not just engineering graduates, but also technicians, foremen and sales staff or anyone who is dealing with pumps and procedural plants in their professional life. Our English course is especially designed for employees of companies operating in an international field, often encountering the need for improved knowledge on the construction, operation and maintenance of pumps.

New registrations for the next programme start in March 2018 are welcome.
